St. Andrew’s Brockley:
The Pollock Chapel
This quiet corner of St. Andrew’s is designed to be a space for reflection. The area is unofficially named in tribute of Miss Betsy Pollock who was the Church Secretary for many years.
In this chapel, we keep the Memorial Book, in this we list the names of loved ones from the church family as well as the names of people who’s funerals have been held here or been led by our Minister.
The four collages behind the Communion Table represent the four elements of nature: earth, air, fire and water. These were created by Edie Burton, a church member. They used to be on display in the main stairwell of the church and were re-homed here after the redecoration of the church in 2019.
Also in this chapel is the ‘dreams tree’ which was part of the 140th Anniversary ‘Celebration in flowers’.
In this Chapel is a portrait of Mrs Melvilee Frith.
Mrs Frith was the first Black Elder of St. Andrew’s. This portrait is a copy of a painting chosen to be displayed at Canada Water Underground Station in September 2023. It was painted by Ann Frith who is Mrs Frith’s daughter and grew up in the St. Andrew’s family.
We hope you enjoy the peace this area offers
